Prologue Performing Arts Welcomes Arts Professional Charity Chan as Vice Chair to their Board of Directors and Celebrates a Successful Summer Arts Break Series.

October 3, 2022

Prologue Performing Arts is thrilled to welcome Charity Chan to the Board of Directors, assuming the role of Vice Chair. Charity is the Executive Director for JAYU, a non-profit organization based in Toronto dedicated to sharing human rights stories through the arts. As a curator, producer, educator and arts manager, she brings with her over 25-years of experience in cross cultural and multidisciplinary programming, community engagement, and arts education, as well as having been a prolific performer and composer for over a decade.

“Charity is a welcome addition to our board. Her expertise and passion for expanding access to the arts for all communities will help Prologue excel in their mission of providing barrier free accessibility to arts education for all youth across Ontario.” says Hasan Makansi, Prologue Performing Arts Board President.

This past summer Prologue Performing Arts was proud to present Summer Arts Break, their first free fully curated summer series in partnership with the City of Toronto’s Cultural Hotspot Initiative and Eglinton Square. Prologue presented 8 interactive arts experiences including a percussion workshop with Njacko Backo, an Indigenous dance performance by Tribal Vision Dance, and storytime with acclaimed author Rukhsana Khan.

“Prologue is excited to be able to reach new communities with our public performance series. The goal of diversifying our programming is to ensure that we are providing barrier free access to arts education for all youth, both in schools and throughout different communities” says Maria Williams, Executive Director of Prologue Performing Arts.

In 2020, Prologue transitioned their programs to virtual platforms to adapt to the COVID restrictions put in place on the performing arts and in schools. Since then the organization has successfully reached over 500,000 students virtually across Ontario.

Prologue Performing Arts is a not-for-profit charitable organization that presents performing arts experiences in schools and communities across Ontario since 1966. To book your school performance visit prologue.org.
