A comedy of mischievous mayhem and delightful absurdities, Rossini’s The Barber of Seville is eternally popular for its irresistible charm and outstanding melodies. Count Almaviva is in love with the charming Rosina, a prisoner in the home of her elderly guardian who intends to marry her himself. To gain access to Rosina, Almaviva hires the services of Figaro, the irrepressible barber who spends as much time scheming as he does shaving!

Have you ever wondered how Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood and Rumplestilskin were born? Why is Rapunzel in the tower? Did the hunter always save Red Riding Hood? Why does the miller’s daughter need to guess the strange little man’s name? This charming opera by Dean Burry tells the story of the two comical brothers as they gather these three well-known tales. This opera was commissioned by the Canadian Opera Company especially for the Xstrata Ensemble Studio School tour.
Each performance package includes the following:
Prior to the performance date, your school will be visited by Canadian Opera Company artist educators who will conduct two (2) 30 minute pre-performance workshops. The performance consists of one (1) 45 minute presentation in English by the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio.
