In School Bound, a breadbox contains a magical world: a blue sky and white clouds above and a house and school at each end. A symphony of sounds – the sizzle of a pan, the plop of boiling porridge – leads our curious chef to a yam named Yamma. Before long, Yamma’s journey from home to school becomes a series of confrontations with bullies of all shapes and sizes: motorcycles (pizza slicers), road sweepers (hand beaters) and an aggressive boy (potato masher). Coping with adversity and overcoming obstacles, Yamma arrives triumphantly at school. The breadbox is closed and young minds are opened to new ways of telling stories.

In Blue Moon, a breadbox is transformed into a bright-yellow world. In this colourful play about accepting differences, Groof, an alien (green egg), arrives in a spaceship (a steamer) in a land populated by Oof, Layo and other yellow eggs. Groof receives a warm welcome until Rotto (a rotten egg) arrives on the scene and taunts him. Groof’s tears reveal that his insides are no different than Rotto’s. By nightfall, yellow and green eggs are friends and sleeping beneath the stars (cookie cutters). A blue moon sprinkles some moondust onto Rotto, and by morning he’s green. Everyone sees that Rotto has changed his colours, and had a change of heart.
