In ancient times, Chinese explorers visited places as far apart as the Caribbean and Australia, and evidence suggests possibly North and South America. With a similar spirit of adventure and with as much excitement, Silk Road Music celebrates the relationships between different cultures through an exploration of world instruments such as the pipa, the Flamenco guitar, the Middle Eastern oud, Indian and Chinese flutes, and percussion instruments.
Silk Road Music’s highly crafted repertoire provides a close look at the relationship between Chinese and non-Chinese music of today. Audiences will journey with these well equipped cultural ambassadors and be mesmerized by Chinese melodies, thrilled by foot-tapping reels, romanced with a passionate Rumba while dancing to a Lakota love song. The world becomes one!

Traditional techniques, driving rhythms and hot melodies mix to give way to a French musical experience that celebrates a more global and cosmopolitan perspective. Some of the songs are familiar folk traditions of Quebec and France, but others will take the audience to such exotic lands as la Camarque or Morocco via gypsy routes of Southern Europe.
