Education and fun are highlights of Sounds of Vietnam! Famous for their musical skills and innovation throughout Vietnam, this Vancouver-based duo take students on a fascinating and exciting journey featuring over a dozen rare and unique instruments native to Vietnam.
Extremely versatile, the performance includes a combination of classical, folk and contemporary Vietnamese music as well as the music of the mountain people of the countryside. The songs are played on a variety of traditional bamboo instruments as well as instruments invented by The Khac Chi Duo’s members. Students should watch for rare and unique instruments such as the dan bau (one-stringed zither) and the dan trung (suspended bamboo xylophone).
The haunting lyricism, energetic rhythms and fascinating timbres offer young audiences an intriguing glimpse into the rich and sophisticated musical tradition of Vietnam and its 4000-year history.
