Ballet Creole artfully incorporates dance and music vignettes to lead their audience through a colourful masquerade of drums. Young audiences witness the transformative power of traditional drumming that originated in West Africa and was brought to the Caribbean. Dancers and percussionists in Drum Masquerade celebrate the many roles and functions of traditional drums. The drum is revered as a spiritual entity, acknowledged as a tool of communication, celebrated in festivities, incorporated in ritual and employed as a call to battle.
Ballet Creole’s eclectic, athletic and highly engaging form of dance and percussion engages young audiences of all ages and opens up a world where music inspires dance and merriment, while reflecting on the unique expressions of African and Caribbean people and communities.
